Initial Thoughts
Necrozma might not fit in OU because of its bad speed, mid typing, and lack of immediate power, but set up sets seem very powerful, especially after a few boosts. Terastalization can remove Necrozma's bad typing and give it a STAB boost on other coverage moves, or powering up its very strong Photon Geyser. It can run multiple sets, such as double dance, dragon dance, swords dance, trick room, and many more, giving it lots of versatility

Pros
  • Necrozma's bright movepool helps it hit more Pokemon for neutral or super-effective damage
  • Necrozma's naturally good bulk can be further boosted by Calm Mind and Iron Defense, making it not as easy to remove off the field.
  • Access to boosting moves like Swords Dance, Dragon Dance, Calm Mind, Iron Defense, as well as recovery in Moonlight and Morning Sun make it a powerful sweeper and tank
  • It's signature move Photon Geyser allows it to have a powerful STAB move for physical and special sets
  • Its Ability Prism Armor allows it to take reduced hits from super-effective attacks
  • Its Terastalization potential allows it to patch up its weaknesses while sometimes gaining STAB on its coverage

Cons
  • A bad typing in mono-Psychic means hinders its defensive prowess
  • Its bad speed stat of base 79 means that common faster threats such as Roaring Moon, Darkrai, Ceruledge, Dragapult, and Gholdengo can outspeed and OHKO it if unboosted
  • Without Tera, Necrozma suffers from a typing that is bad offensively and defensively
  • Necrozma has a severe 4MSS, due to wanting STAB, coverage, set-up, and recovery all in the same set

Sets
:necrozma::power-herb:
Necrozma @ Power Herb
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Tera Type: Rock / Dark
Modest Nature
- Meteor Beam
- Photon Geyser
- Heat Wave
- Stealth Rock
Meteor Beam allows Necrozma to gain a +1 Sp.Atk boost while attacking in one turn thanks to Power Herb, but this set has a huge speed problem, making it probably the most unviable one here

:necrozma::lum-berry::weakness-policy::life-orb:
Necrozma @ Lum Berry / Weakness Policy / Life Orb
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Dark
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Photon Geyser
- Knock Off / X-Scissor
- Earthquake
This set patches up Necrozma's Speed problem with Dragon Dance, which also boosts Necrozma's middling Attack stats of 109, but can be killed with priority from the likes of Kingambit or Dragapult's Sucker Punch

:necrozma::weakness-policy:
Necrozma @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
IVs: 0 Atk
Tera Type:
Modest Nature
- Calm Mind
- Iron Defense / Morning Sun / Moonlight
- Stored Power / Photon Geyser
- Heat Wave
Instead of using Speed to help Necrozma's Speed problem, it uses defensive set up moves, which boosts its defenses. The issue lies in 4MSS, which prevents Necrozma from being unwallable in both defenses due to its necessity of 2 attacking moves (otherwise Dark-types would wall it), but can chipped overtime if it has no recovery, but then makes it vulnerable to physical attackers

Couldn't this be somewhat solved with something like, I don't know, Tera Fighting + Tera Blast for Kingambit. Because earlier, you said
  • Without Tera, Necrozma suffers from a typing that is bad offensively and defensively
I agree with that, but what about with tera?

rocks in that power herb set could be replaced with autotomize if necro still learns it, still slow as balls after +2 but it helps and there are better rockers anyway
