Mareanie is one of the top walls in Little Cup, capable of checking threats such as Pawniard, Quaxly, and Nymble. Toxic Spikes wears down foes like Toedscool and synergizes with partners like Hex Hisuian Zorua, while Ice Beam hits Toedscool and Foongus. Mareanie has some other viable options for its fourth moveslot; Haze is an option to stop setup sweepers like Swords Dance Pawniard and Bulk Up Crabrawler, and Iron Defense turns Mareanie into a defensive wincon. Tera Water eliminates Mareanie's weakness to Ground- and Psychic-type moves, notably preventing an OHKO from Life Orb Diglett, while also making it less passive by powering up Surf. Mareanie benefits from the support of teammates like Deerling, Toedscool, and Diglett. Deerling and Toedscool can switch into troublesome Ground-types like Mudbray and opposing Toedscool, while Diglett traps problematic Electric-types like Magnemite and Voltorb.

With the combination of its good natural bulk and access to Recover and Regenerator, Mareanie is one of the top defensive walls in the metagame Little Cup. With its good defensive typing, Mareanie can Its well-rounded defensive typing allows Mareanie to switch in on threatening Pokemon such as Pawniard, Quaxly, (AC) and Nymble. Surf and Sludge Bomb are two solid STAB moves, with the latter useful for its chance to poison, dealing valuable chip damage for Mareanie's offensive teammates, Alternatively, Ice Spinner can be used with 31 Attack IVs to OHKO Toedscool after Stealth Rock damage. Haze and Toxic Spikes are very valuable utilities for Mareanie. Haze is able to stop set up sweepers like Swords Dance Pawniard and Bulk Up Buizel, while Toxic Spikes can help break down the opposing Pokemon who are not immune to them. Mareanie uses a Water Tera type so it can Tera Water to shed its weakness to Ground-type moves and still have the valuable Water-type while maintaining the benefits of its Water-typing. This is especially important for avoiding being trapped and killed by Diglett. Mareanie appreciates the support of Pokemon teammates like Deerling and Mudbray to switch in on its checks. Deerling can switch The former switches in on Toedscool, who switches in on Mareanie and can hinder it which can threaten Mareanie with Knock Off, Spore, (AC) or and Earth Power. Mudbray, while the latter is able to come in on Electric-types such as Magnemite and Wattrel Voltorb (Most Mudbray can't do anything to Wattrel either), who threaten Mareanie with super effective Volt Switch or Thunderbolt (Diglett is by far the best Mareanie teammate and needs to be mentioned. It is the only Pokemon that can stop a Choice Scarf Magnemite from freely clicking Electric attacks into Mareanie, as it can simply switch out against Mudbray. Either replace Mudbray here or add Diglett). Mareanie fears the common Ground-types in such as Mudbray, Toedscool, (AC) and Diglett. Mareanie especially fears Diglett Life Orb Diglett is especially troublesome, as it can come in on Mareanie and trap it with Arena Trap, leading to either an OHKO with Earthquake or a forced Terastalization into a Water-type to survive an Earthquake. (Should also briefly mention Foongus/Shellos who defensively check Mareanie rather than offensively).

With good natural bulk and access to Recover and Regenerator, Mareanie is one of the top defensive walls in Little Cup. With its well-rounded defensive typing, Mareanie can switch in on threatening Pokemon such as Pawniard, Quaxly, and Nymble.(Combine the previous two sentences) Surf and Sludge Bomb are two solid STAB moves, with the latter useful for its chance to poison, dealing valuable chip damage for Mareanie's offensive teammates. Alternatively, Ice Spinner can be used with 31 Attack IVs to OHKO Toedscool after Stealth Rock. Haze and Toxic Spikes are very valuable utilities for Mareanie. Toxic Spikes wears down foes like Toedscool and synergizes with partners like Hex Gastly, while Ice Beam hits Toedscool and Foongus. Haze is able a honorable mention to stop setup sweepers like Swords Dance Pawniard and Bulk Up Buizel Crabrawler, while Toxic Spikes can help break down the opposing Pokemon who are not immune to them. Mareanie uses Tera Water so it can shed its weakness to Ground-type moves while keeping the benefits of its Water-typing.(I would specifically mention Diglett, which is the main reason to Tera Water; the part about keeping benefits is fluff) Mareanie appreciates the support of teammates like Toedscool, Deerling, and Diglett to switch in on its checks. The former can switch in on Toedscool, who switches in on Mareanie and can threaten it with Knock Off, Spore or Earth Power. Diglett is able to come in on Electric-types such as Magnemite and Voltorb, who threaten Mareanie with a super effective Volt Switch or Thunderbolt.(This is kinda inaccurate because Diglett isn't really a switch-in to them, but traps them) The former two can switch into troublesome Ground-types like Mudbray, Diglett, and opposing Toedscool, while Diglett traps problematic Electric-types like Magnemite and Voltorb. Mareanie fears Ground-types such as Mudbray, Toedscool and Diglett.(moving this up) Life Orb Diglett is especially threatening, as it can come in on Mareanie and trap it, leading to either an OHKO with Earthquake or a forced Terastalization to survive an Earthquake. Defensive Pokemon such as Shellos and Foongus also cause problems for Mareanie. The former takes no damage and gets a +1 in Special Attack from Surf due to Storm Drain, while the latter can switch in on any of Mareanie's moves and win the one on one with Spore and Giga Drain. (This is too specific)
