reserving Caly-S

:sv/calyrex-shadow:

Calyrex-Shadow @ Choice Scarf
Ability: As One (Spectrier)
Tera Type: Ghost/Normal/Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

- Astral Barrage
- Psyshock
- Grass Knot

How does Calyrex-Shadow help Zacian-Crowned?
Zacian-C is weak to most scarfers, such as Koraidon (OHKOs with Flare Blitz), Miraidon (2HKOs with Electro Drift and sometimes OHKOs with Overheat), Kyorgre (OHKOs with Water Spout at full HP), as well as a lot of Caly-S sets (OHKOs after +2 SpA). How do we deal with these threats? We kill them before they have a chance to attack, of course. Scarfed Caly-S outspeeds basically everything, and can OHKO most things after +1 SpA. Tera Normal means that other scarfed Caly-S's cannot OHKO it (also checks sash variants of Caly-S, however rare they may be), while Tera Ghost gives it more STAB power. Tera Grass is another option that can help deal with Ting-Lu and various Arceus forms. This Zacian-C set can be weak to opposing Zacians, as it doesn't have Behemoth Blade and cannot hit them for neutral damage (wild charge doesn't really count). Caly-S can help with this because it can just click Astral Barrage.

How does Zacian-Crowned help Calyrex-Shadow?
Caly-S is awesome, but it still has checks and counters. Zacian-C 2HKOs Ting-Lu with Play Rough, and its typing checks Arceus. Wild charge 2HKOs Ho-oh, another Caly-S check. Crunch also lets it OHKO the opposing Caly-S, and Tera Dark allows it to resist its attacks. Once these threats are gone, Caly-S can just click Astral Barrage and everything dies yay!

Calculations:
Do we really need calculations? I'm sure everyone has used Caly-S before. But here's a list of calculations showing how op caly-s is after +1 SpA in case you didn't know

+1 252 SpA Calyrex-Shadow Astral Barrage vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Miraidon: 312-367 (91.4 - 107.6%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
+1 252 SpA Calyrex-Shadow Astral Barrage vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Koraidon: 351-414 (102.9 - 121.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252 SpA Calyrex-Shadow Astral Barrage vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Zacian-Crowned: 312-367 (88.8 - 104.5%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
+1 252 SpA Calyrex-Shadow Astral Barrage vs. 240 HP / 252+ SpD Arceus-Ground: 223-264 (50.5 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252 SpA Calyrex-Shadow Psyshock vs. 200 HP / 0 Def Arceus: 201-237 (46.6 - 54.9%) -- 64.5% chance to 2HKO
+1 252 SpA Calyrex-Shadow Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Vessel of Ruin Ting-Lu: 294-346 (57.1 - 67.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Tera Flying + Rest vs Electric Terrain sounds hilarious. Yes I did consider the fact that Miraidon would nuke it with Electro Drift. It’s called shitty comedy. In all seriousness, Zacian wants to pair itself with a powerful special attacker, and since Kyogre paired great with it last gen, why not this one too? Kyogre powers down Koraidon with Drizzle and can also just rank hits from it with the massive investment in physical bulk. Its naturally great special bulk means it should take at least one non-boosted special hit from anything not called electro drift and fire back with a hard opulse or ice beam, and it’s naturally high special attack ensures it will hit hard even without investment. Both of these uninvested stats can be shored up with Calm Mind, and it has some measure of recovery with Rest to keep it alive if electric terrain isn’t present. Optionally, if you don’t want rest for fear of a wasted move slot vs electric terrain, you can opt for Thunder, which threatens Arceus-Water, which Zacian appreciates. It helps Zacian immensely versus its nightmare fuel, NDM, as well as checks like ho-oh, groundceus, and koraidon. Zacian, in return, can switch into EKiller, which Kyogre appreciates, and can threaten more offensive threats like Miraidon and Calyrex-S if healthy. So in conclusion, this is why Tentacruel should learn Mortal Spin.

With that, voting slate will commence itself. Remember that you’re only allowed to vote for one Pokemon at once.

Using ting-lu as a spd wall you can wall Miriadon or Calyrex-Shadow which Ho-oh cant do it works the other way around too ting lu is weak to koraidon which Ho-oh can wall because of its high defense and tera fairy using this core you can switch into the majority of the meta safely without losing momentum

Defensive Calcs: 252 SpA Hadron Engine Miraidon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Vessel of Ruin Ting-Lu: 181-214 (35.2 - 41.6%) -- 79.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Electro Drift/Parabolic Charge
- Draco Meteor
- Dazzling Gleam
- Calm Mind

Why Miraidon?
Because it kills Kyogre, duh (unless it's tera ground, in which case ur pretty much screwed). And other miraidons (especially with tera fairy), and other ho-ohs, and koraidon (again, tera fairy helps a lot). Tera fairy Dazzling Gleam 2HKOs Ting-Lu, another threat. Ho-oh helps miraidon with Zacian-C, as well as Caly-S to a lesser degree. Parabolic Charge is an alternate to Electro Drift and can provide some healing if needed

Weaknesses
Stealth rocks. And maybe caly-s. Scarfed miraidons and scarfed koraidons might force a tera, and Zacian-C with wild charge is also bad bc ho-oh cant survive it and zacian outspeeds miraidon... Arceus ground is also a threat, especially bulky sets, as miraidon can't ohko it with draco meteor. and it can also put down rocks. while ho-oh may be able to tank a few hits from it, none of ho-oh's attacks are supereffective, so it's slightly hard to kill (still dies from a few brave birds tho, dependingon its defense). Ting-Lu is also a problem (again, rocks), but dazzling gleam helps.

Anyways what i mean to say is band ho-oh is stupid and no one in their right mind would use it. Thank you for listening to my ted talk

- U-Turn/Knock Off

- Shed Tail
- Draco Meteor

Hear me out on this one. The two obvious ones got taken so I needed to do what I do best and get creative with crappy Pokémon. Now I know the set itself isn’t extremely creative, but my thought process was this: “What’s a fast Pokémon that can help keep Rocks off the field?” And as much as I really don’t like this Pokémon for being the clear excuse by Gamefreak to give Korai and Mirai story relevance, I think it gets the job done. Since the set here is Band Ho-oh as opposed to Heavy-Duty Boots, rocks pose a serious threat, and with a great lack of good defoggers and rapid spinners in the format, Taunt is the most reliable form of hazard control. Cyclizar can learn Rapid Spin, but I think it needs an extra form of positional utility in U-Turn to help position both Ho-oh and the rest of the team in case it can’t Shed Tail, or even Knock Off to get rid of opposing Boots or any item that poses a nuisance. Speaking of Shed Tail, it’s an absolutely busted move that greatly helps out Ho-oh, giving it either a free switch or a free switch with a substitute, allowing Ho-oh to get at least one extremely hard hit off. As much as base 121 is an interesting speed tier, it simply isn’t enough in a meta dominated by Pokémon base 135 speed and above, so I believe the Choice Scarf is necessary. This also allows it to get off a clutch Draco Meteor into its paradox counterparts that otherwise threaten to obliterate it. Cyclizar particularly helps out Banded Ho-oh by threatening Koraidon and Miraidon, the latter especially, who can deal big damage and severely limit Ho-oh’s impact, and it can pivot out and position Ho-oh against pokemon it can have an impact against, such as NDM, special or support Groundceus, and Ting-Lu to a degree, among others. They also have the dual regenerator core, providing another layer of defensive synergy. So thank you again for reading my post that will get zero votes on the voting slate. Regardless, these things are fun, and I’m glad the AG forum is doing stuff like this again.

With that, this weeks submissions come to an end. The Voting Slate shall commence itself. Remember that you're only allowed for one Pokemon at a time.

just kidding. although most of the explanations are in there.

Tera Type: Fire/Flying
EVs: 104 HP / 252 Atk / 152 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Behemoth Blade
- Play Rough
- Wild Charge
- Swords Dance

Why Zacian-C?
Ok, Koraidon is not the only thing that kills ting-lu. Fairy types exist. While Arceus-Fairy can also get the job done (with power gem to take care of ho-oh), it's usually better to have a variety of physical and special attackers, so you don't get walled by something stupid like clodsire. Wild charge on Zacian-C helps with Ho-oh, which can be difficult for caly-s to deal with alone, and Play Rough lets it OHKO Miraidon and Koraidon. Behemoth Blade takes care of everything else, and its typing allows it to check Arceus. Tera flying removes its ground weakness, though scarfed Miraidon might be a problem. Alternatively, Tera Fire makes it immune to being burnt and allows it to resist Koraidon's Flare Blitz and Ho-oh's Sacred Fire. Since only 152 Spe is needed to outspeed Miraidon and Koraidon (even with max speed it won't be able to outspeed anything else so what's the point), the extra EV's can go into bulk, and more survivability means it gets more hits off, meaning more things die.

How does Caly-S benefit Zacian-C?
It clicks Astral Barrage and things die.

Important Calcs:
+1 252 Atk Zacian-Crowned Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ting-Lu: 404-476 (78.5 - 92.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+1 252 Atk Zacian-Crowned Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Koraidon: 868-1024 (254.5 - 300.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252 Atk Zacian-Crowned Wild Charge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Ho-Oh: 252-298 (60.7 - 71.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252 Atk Zacian-Crowned Behemoth Blade vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Arceus: 234-276 (53 - 62.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Calyrex-S is a Pokémon that is very vulnerable to itself due to its typing and stat spread, it being a relatively frail but extremely fast and hard-hitting special attacker that can snowball extremely quickly. Bulky Ekiller is the best answer to that threat of a speed tie or an opposing scarf Caly-S. While base 120 across the board is becoming less and less impressive by generation, it’s still excellent, allowing it to tank hits well and dish back hard and before your opponent with priority STAB extreme speed. It’s pure normal typing allows it to switch in to unboosted Caly-S fairly comfortably and threaten a revenge kill with Shadow Claw, and if it Teras into a type that isn’t ghost, it becomes vulnerable to extreme speed. Ekiller also helps Caly against fast offensive threats like Koraidon and Miraidon with extreme speed and can play Tera mind games against Koraidon and opposing ekiller. Caly and Ekiller also have that normal-ghost synergy that can cause further mind games into the mirror matchup. Caly and Ekiller together are such a versatile, flexible, and powerful duo that cover just about everything you’d want to on their own, even if not perfectly, but they are an offensive (and defensive to a certain extent) core that is on most teams for a reason.
