Here’s my Hail Okidogi team:

:Sinistcha: :Kyurem: :Ninetales-Alola: :Landorus-Therian: :Volcanion: :Okidogi:

Hail is extremely good and there’s a ton of ways to build it, but there’s a few main threats that most people rely on to beat hail, primarily Glimmora & Gholdengo. This team tries to have enough checks for those two threats, and let Aurora Veil + Bulky attackers do the rest.

:Okidogi: Glimmora is a problem for hail due to its ability to either set rocks & t spikes and thus slowly chip away at your bulky attackers, or by using meteor beam to prevent you from getting up Aurora Veil. Thus Okidogi plays a pivotal role here, able to absorb T Spikes, which lets you just lead Lando-t and attack into Glimmora. It’s also great into Incineroar who could otherwise just pivot freely. Beyond that, it’s also a bulky attacker with Drain Punch/knock off, able to just constantly get either healing or utility. The EV’s live a Landorus EP and dump the rest in attack, so behind Veil it easily eats it, and then is able to Drain Punch health back. It’s also very necessary as a Kingambit check, which would otherwise be very difficult for the team.

You can go High Horsepower over Ice Punch here, as there are a lot of ice moves already on the team, so depending on how I’m feeling they’re pretty interchangable. Tera Dark is just there to help with Psyspam, but there’s a few other Tera’s that can work like Ghost/Grass.

:Sinistcha: Sinistcha is amazing on hail, able to pivot & constantly heal bulky allies behind veil, redirecting threats like Iron Hands & Archaludon, all while also setting TR as a form of speed control. Naturally Sinistcha struggles into Tornadus teams, but that’s what the hail is for. You can go life dew over nasty plot, but I’ve felt this team can struggle to hit waters a little, and so nasty plot lets Sinistcha become a threat in its own right. (Shadow ball is an option if you’re struggling vs Gholdengo, or other niche stuff like strength sap can be cool). EVs are from the sample.

:Landorus-therian: Lando-t is a match made in heaven for hail + Sinistcha, as it’s great at pivoting into Sinistcha while also beating Fire/Rock/Steels & Iron Hands. Scarf here is great to give the team a fast option, and is great for leads into stuff like Glimmora. You can go Rock Tomb over Stone Edge for some extra speed control, but I’ve found that the lack of power can be really detrimental if you get locked into Tomb.

:Volcanion: Volcanion is just great on screens + Sinistcha, as it is able to just constantly dish out more damage than it’s taking. It’s obviously very complimentary with hail, being able to beat many types that hail struggles with, while hail is good into Ground mons like Lando’s & Dragons like Raging Bolt. Tera Grass is excellent for an emergency Amoonguss play, as well as being a solid Tera for Raging Bolt & Archaludon.

:Kyurem: We all know what Kyurem does, it just sits there and spams powerful coverage attacks while getting the hail defense boosts & AV Spdef boosts. Dragon Tail is there just to help out with set up pokemon, as there isn’t a great other option, stuff like Flash Cannon for Diancie really isn’t necessary on this team. Tera Poison is chosen just for being able to Tera against Fighting & Fairy attacks, but Steel is an excellent choice as well to help with stuff like Gholdengo. In more recent times I’d probably go Steel over Poison.

:Ninetales-Alola: This thing is here to set Hail & Veil, and beyond that it pretty much just provides disruption with Encore. The only mons it can hit decently are like 4x effective with Freeze Dry, such as Pelipper/Ogerpon-Wellspring/Lando’s. The EVs guarantee you outspeed the rare Garchomp & ohko Lando, with the rest in spdef bulk.
