[SET COMMENTS]
Thanks to its amazing typing, defensive utility, solid speed tier, and great coverage that can hit most of the metagame for at least neutral damage, Zapdos is a potent offensive pivot. Static is used to fish for paralysis, giving Zapdos a way to punish contact moves from Urshifu-R, Kartana, and Tornadus-T. Heat Wave is used to incinerate switch-ins to its STABs, notably Excadrill, Ferrothorn, and Melmetal. Toxic is used to put switch-ins like Landorus-T, Tapu Koko, Gastrodon and Hippowdon on a timer, wearing them down as the game progresses. This Zapdos set should be played cautiously, as it needs to be very healthy to effectively check the Grass and Flying types it's tasked to handle, while also fearing Knock Off from Rillaboom, Kartana, and Torn-T, letting them chip it down with Stealth Rock after losing its Heavy-Duty Boots. Moreover, it's also afraid of Toxic from other Pokemon Zapdos pivots into, like Melmetal, Toxapex, and Buzzwole.

[Team Options]
Zapdos fits best on offensive and balance teams that call for its firepower and role compression, with its Volt Switch support, Static to punish common breakers, and strong attacks finding a home on many teams. Excadrill is naturally a great partner, with its ability to pressure Zapdos's answers like Tapu Koko, Heatran, and Galarian Slowking and providing Rapid Spin support that Zapdos appreciates in the event of getting its Heavy-Duty Boots removed by Knock Off. Zapdos, in return, provides Volt Switch support to dent common Excadrill answers like Slowbro, Corviknight, and Skarmory, eliminating other Excadrill checks with its coverage in Hurricane and Heat Wave, such as Buzzwole, Ferrothorn, and Rillaboom, and using Toxic to cripple Landorus-T, Hippowdon, and opposing Zapdos. Tyranitar is also a good teammate, as Volt Switch gives Tyranitar many opportunities to hit the field safely and fire off powerful attacks, while Tyranitar appreciates Zapdos answering Buzzwole and Ferrothorn and wearing down Landorus-T and Garchomp with Toxic. Slowbro is a solid defensive partner, as Zapdos neatly complements Slowbro thanks to its ability to handle Grass-types like Kartana and Rillaboom, while Zapdos appreciates Slowbro's defensive prowess relieving much of the pressure put on it by powerful wallbreakers and offensive Ground-types, such as Urshifu-R, Victini, and Garchomp. Ferrothorn works well with Zapdos providing Knock Off and Spikes support to force chip damage on Zapdos's switch-ins like Hippowdon and Garchomp. Its also a sturdy check to Weavile, Melmetal, and Tyranitar. In return, Zapdos checks Kartana, Buzzwole, and Urshifu-R and pressures Moltres, Magnezone and opposing Ferrothorn. Heatran and Melmetal are effective partners thanks to their ability to check special attackers like Dragapult, opposing Zapdos, and Tapu Lele. Heatran, is a great partner due to Magma Storm's ability to trap and isolate Galarian Slowking and Blissey with the support of Taunt, being great in opening up Zapdos. Heatran also baits in the aforementioned Specially Defensive Ground-types and can Toxic them, and, if running Flame Body, can fish for burns against Weavile. Melmetal is a great partner due to its bulk and typing allowing it to answer a myriad of Pokemon that pressure Zapdos, such as Weavile, Tapu Lele, Tapu Koko, and Dragapult, all of which it threatens with Double Iron Bash. Melmetal also lures in Ground-types that pester Zapdos like Gastrodon, Hippowdon, and Garchomp and inflict them with Toxic. Weavile is a great partner thanks to how it benefits from Zapdos forcing out Skarmory, Corviknight, and Buzzwole, which all impede Weavile's ability to make progress, while also providing it with Volt Switch support. In return, Weavile is great for forcing Knock Off that cripples Zapdos's checks like Clefable, Melmetal, and Heatran, denying them of their Leftovers it needs to not be worn down by Volt Switch as the game progresses. Weavile also directly threatens the specially defensive Ground-Types like Hippowdon, Landorus-T, Gastrodon, and Garchomp, with its powerful Ice-type STABS. Powerful wallbreakers that can threaten special walls, like Urshifu-R, Tapu Lele, and Kartana, are also great picks, as they enjoy Volt Switch that can dent their answers like Slowbro, Tapu Fini, and Toxapex respectively. Finally, other consistent pivots go very well with Zapdos, Pokemon like Dragapult, Landorus-T, and Slowbro all fit this role well, allowing for the formation of pivot spam cores to safely invite wallbreakers, such as Tyranitar, Urshifu-R, and Tapu Lele onto the field.

Thanks to its amazing typing, defensive utility, great speed tier, and solid coverage (would actually swap the adjectives for these two, base 100 Speed is no longer that great in generation 8 even though it's still very solid, while Hurricane/Heat Wave/Volt Switch is genuinely amazing coverage in this tier) that can hit most of the metagame for at least neutral damage, Zapdos is a potent offensive pivot. Static is used to fish for paralysis, giving Zapdos a way to check Urshifu-R, Kartana, and Tornadus-T (it's more about punishing contact moves more than anything, also Zapdos checks Tornadus-T regardless of its ability, it's just that Static punishes Knock Off and U-turn). Heat Wave is used to incinerate switch-ins to its STABs, notably Excadrill, Ferrothorn, and Melmetal, while also having the added benefit of allowing Zapdos to fish for burns (a 10% secondary effect isn't significant enough to be mentioned in an analysis). Toxic is used to cripple other answers to it put switch-ins like Landorus-T, Tapu Koko, and Hippowdon (think Gastrodon should be mentioned over Landorus-T as Zapdos can wear down the latter with Hurricane, but needs Toxic to put Gastrodon on a timer) on a timer, wearing them down as the game progresses. Moreover, it's also afraid of Toxic from other switch-ins like Melmetal, Tapu Koko, and Excadrill (Zapdos does not switch into Tapu Koko, and utility Excadrill is not really seen anymore. I would suggest mentioning Toxapex.).

Tyranitar is also a good teammate, as Volt Switch's safe pivoting gives Tyranitar many opportunities to hit the field safely and fire off powerful attacks, while Tyranitar appreciatinges Zapdos answering Buzzwole and Ferrothorn and wearing down Landorus-T and Garchomp with Toxic. Slowbro is a solid defensive partner, as Zapdos neatly compliements Slowbro thanks to its ability to handle Grass-types, while Zapdos appreciates Scald burns to let it check physical attackers with greater ease, and Future Sight support to force more chip on Landorus-T, Hippowdon, and Garchomp (reword this into Slowbro relieving the pressure on Zapdos to check Ground-types). Ferrothorn works well with Zapdos, providing Knock Off and Spikes support to force chip damage on specially defensive Pokemon Zapdos' switch-ins like Gastrodon and Hippowdon, as well as having the benefit of checking. It is also a sturdy check to Weavile, Garchomp, and Tyranitar (Ferrothorn doesn't really appreciate taking boosted Earthquakes and gets obliterated by Fire Fang),. appreciating In return, Zapdos answering checks Kartana, Rillaboom, and Urshifu-R (Kartana and Rillaboom generally have trouble breaking past Ferrothorn even with Fighting-type coverage, mention Buzzwole instead.), alongside and pressuringes Toxapex, Slowbro, and (Ferrothorn pressures these Pokemon by itself) other opposing Ferrothorn. Heatran and Melmetal are effective partners thanks to their ability to check special attackers like Dragapult, opposing Zapdos, and Tapu Lele. Heatran can torch Magnezone and Melmetal, while also trapping Galarian Slowking and being able to threaten a burn Weavile with if it is running Flame Body (Zapdos forces Magnezone and Melmetal out if it runs Heat Wave. Expand on the second part of the sentence on how Heatran can trap and remove specially bulky Pokemon like Galarian Slowking and Blissey while pressuring shared checks such as Hippowdon and Gastrodon with Toxic.). Melmetal can threaten bulky Ground-types like Landorus-T and Garchomp with Ice Punch, Earthquake to crush Heatran, Zeraora, and Galarian Slowking on the switch (none of these are that realistic, explain how it is a good Dragapult, Tapu Lele, Tapu Koko, and Weavile check thanks to its incredible mixed bulk and strong Double Iron Bash), while its STAB Double Iron Bash threatens Dragapult and Tapu Lele, which otherwise can dent Zapdos badly. These two also can spread Toxic, while luring the aforementioned Ground-types and Gastrodon. Weavile is a great partner thanks to how it benefits from Zapdos forcing out the Steel-type birds Corviknight, Skarmory, and Buzzwole, and Volcarona (Zapdos is typically forced out by Volcarona even if it is running Hurricane as the latter can QD on it and Roost off damage until Zapdos misses, if not KO it with a boosted Flamethrower), which all impede Weavile's ability to make progress, while also providing it with Volt Switch support. In return, Weavile is great for forcing Knock Off that cripples Zapdos's checks like Blissey, Melmetal, and Heatran (Blissey very rarely stays in on Weavile + Zapdos checks Melmetal. Their shared checks are Heatran and Clefable.), denying them of the items (elaborate on the items) they desperately need to reliably answer Zapdos as the game progresses. Weavile also directly threatens the Sspecially Ddefensive Ground-Types and Dragonite that check Zapdos, like Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Hippowdon with its powerful Triple Axel, which is great for opening up Zapdos to spam Volt Switch Ice-type STAB moves. Powerful wallbreakers that can threaten special walls enjoy Volt Switch, like Urshifu-R, Kartana, and Kartana are all also great picks, as they enjoy the safe switches provided y Volt Switch that can denting their answers like Slowbro, Tapu Fini, and Buzzwole Toxapex (Volt Switch hits physically defensive Toxapex harder) respectively. Finally, other consistent pivots go very well with Zapdos,. Pokemon like Tapu Koko Dragapult (Koko and Zapdos can work, but there are redundancies with the two), Landorus-T, and Slowbro all fit this role well, allowing for the formation of pivot spam cores to safely invite bring wallbreakers (examples here would be nice, e.g. Choice Band Tyranitar) onto the field.

Static is used to fish for paralysis, giving Zapdos a way to punish contact moves from Urshifu-R, Kartana, and Tornadus-T melm and rilla are good examples too, I'd say worth going over 3 examples for.
