Set Description
=========

Dragon Dance enables Dragapult to get the most out of its superior Attack stat while also boosting its already tremendous Speed to ridiculous heights, foiling would-be revenge killers like Choice Scarf variants of Kartana and Tapu Lele. Dragapult can find free opportunities to use Dragon Dance by taking advantage of Pokemon Choice locked into an unfortunate move, such as Choice Band Urshifu-R locked into Close Combat, as well as using its offensive presence to scare out Pokemon like Slowbro and Ferrothorn. Dragon Darts is a high-powered STAB option that shreds neutral targets like Tornadus-T, Urshifu-S, and Blissey. Phantom Force is Dragapult's other STAB attack, hitting Fairy-types like Tapu Fini and Tapu Lele and overall being much harder to switch into due to the lack of common resistances to Ghost, and even less that can handle Dragon Darts. Life Orb-boosted Fire Blast allows Dragapult to OHKO Ferrothorn and 2HKO specially defensive Corviknight and Melmetal, while Flamethrower trades some of the raw power of Fire Blast for extra consistency. Dragon Fang can be used over Life Orb to avoid the recoil damage from Dragapult, allowing it to still sweep after being significantly chipped down, at the cost of having a comparatively weaker Phantom Force and Fire Blast. Clear Body is chosen to allow Dragapult to ignore Intimidate as well as the rare Sticky Web. A Lonely nature is chosen to maximize Dragapult's damage output on both sides of the spectrum and because, after a Dragon Dance, Dragapult is fast enough to outspeed relevant Choice Scarf users while using a neutral nature.

Team Options
========

This set is generally used on hyper offense sets, with Dragapult providing a good natural Speed tier to threaten out Pokemon like Choice Specs Blacephalon and Swords Dance Kartana, which would otherwise be incredibly threatening to those structures. In return, these teams can support Dragapult with Aurora Veil from Alolan Ninetales or dual screens from setters like Tapu Koko. Dragapult fears priority users like Choice Band Weavile and Choice Band Rillaboom, which can halt Dragapult's sweep with their strong priority moves, so pairing Dragapult with an answer to them like Scizor or Flame Body Heatran can alleviate the problem. Heatran is an especially good teammate for a few reasons: it can trap and remove checks to Dragapult like Clefable and Toxapex with Magma Storm and Taunt; is a fantastic Stealth Rock setter on hyper offense teams thanks to its ability to threaten the tier's best Defoggers in Corviknight, Zapdos, and Tornadus-T; and is a sturdy check to Tapu Lele, particularly Choice Scarf variants, which greatly threaten hyper offense teams. Swords Dance Garchomp is a good partner on hyper offense teams, as it can switch into and threaten physically defensive Heatran, which can threaten a burn on Dragapult using Phantom Force with Flame Body. Additionally, they can overwhelm shared checks like Tapu Fini, Clefable, and Corviknight.

Dragon Dance enables Dragapult to get the most out of its superior Attack stat while also boosting its already tremendous Speed to ridiculous heights, foiling would-be revenge killers like Choice Scarf variants of Urshifu-R, Kartana, and Tapu Lele. Dragon Darts is a high-powered STAB option that shreds neutral targets like Tornadus-T, Urshifu-S, and Blissey after minimal chip damage (it already 2HKOs all of the aforementioned Pokemon without any chip damage). Phantom Force is Dragapult's other STAB attack, hitting Fairy-types and overall being much harder to switch into due to the lack of common resistances to Ghost (I think you can talk about how Ghost / Dragon is just an incredible STAB combination in SS OU as well - Ghost is already difficult enough to switch into, but Dragon Darts obliterates most of the viable Dark- and Normal-types in the tier). Life Orb-boosted Fire Blast allows Dragapult to OHKO Ferrothorn, Bisharp, and Kartana (Not too relevant here as Life Orb Dragapult has decent odds to OHKO Kartana at +1 outside of outspeeding it naturally. I would mention how Fire Blast can 2HKO Melmetal on the switch with a Life Orb boost instead in the next sentence.) and 2HKO specially defensive Corviknight, while Flamethrower trades some of the raw power of Fire Blast for extra consistency. A Lonely nature is chosen to maximize Dragapult's damage output on both sides of the spectrum and because Dragapult is fast enough even with a neutral nature (this is not exactly true, it's just that Dragon Dance Dragapult outspeeds all relevant Choice Scarf users in the metagame after a boost outside of dangerous people who use Choice Scarf Tapu Koko even if it runs a neutral nature). Dragapult can find free setup opportunities by taking advantage of Pokemon Choice-locked into an unfortunate move, such as when Choice Band Urshifu-R locked into Close Combat, as well as by using its offensive presence to scare out Pokemon like Slowbro and Ferrothorn. Dragapult is most effective when priority users like Weavile and Bisharp have been dealt with prior to setting up. (More suited for Team Options, use this to segue into what teammates can take care of those Pokemon. Also try not to mention Bisharp too much, it is quite the relic in the tier and you will not like the Phantom Force/Shadow Ball calcs after Bisharp comes in on a layer of Spikes.)

Team Options

This variant set is generally used on hyper offense teams, with Dragapult providing a good natural Speed tier to threaten out Pokemon like Choice Specs Blacephalon and Swords Dance Kartana, which would otherwise be incredibly threatening to those structures. In return, these teams can support Dragapult with Aurora Veil from Alolan Ninetales or dual screens from setters like Grimmsnarl and Regieleki (I have not seen either of them for a long time in a serious match, Tapu Koko is probably the best dual screens setter out of SS OU's questionable lot). Dragapult fears Choice Band Weavile, as its Ice Shard OHKOes it after very minimal chip, so pairing Dragapult with a Weavile answer like Scizor or Flame Body Heatran can alleviate the problem. Heatran is an especially good teammate as it can run Magma Storm and Taunt to trap and remove both Clefable and Toxapex, which check Dragapult (Also mention how Heatran is a great Stealth Rock setter, making it a good lead/Pokemon for the hyper offense teams that this set often finds itself on. You can also mention how Heatran is a good Tapu Lele check, especially Choice Scarf variants that give hyper offense teams trouble.). Swords Dance Garchomp is a good partner on hyper offense teams, as it that can switch into and threaten physically defensive Heatran, which checks this set can threaten a burn on Dragapult using Phantom Force with Flame Body. Additionally, they can overwhelm shared checks like Tapu Fini and Hippowdon (Hippowdon does not check either as it runs a specially defensive spread in SS OU. Corviknight and Clefable are better examples.), being able to work together to overwhelm them.

Dragon Dance enables Dragapult to get the most out of its superior Attack stat while also boosting its already tremendous Speed to ridiculous heights, foiling would-be revenge killers like Choice Scarf variants of Urshifu-R i dont super love shifu as an example here, but its fine. you could do like. tapu fini or something but thats kinda a meme. i kinda want you to just say kart and lele, Kartana, and Tapu Lele. Dragon Darts is a high-powered STAB option that shreds neutral targets like Tornadus-T, Urshifu-S, and Blissey. Phantom Force is Dragapult's other STAB attack, hitting Fairy-types such as? and overall being much harder to switch into due to the lack of common resistances to Ghost, and even less that can handle Dragon Darts. Life Orb-boosted Fire Blast allows Dragapult to OHKO Ferrothorn and Bisharp i dont think i want to reference bisharp here, sucker punch and 2HKO specially defensive Corviknight and Melmetal, while Flamethrower trades some of the raw power of Fire Blast for extra consistency i kinda want this to be reworded in such a way that communicates which of these calcs are maintained with flamethrower. could do like 'flamethrower does blah blah blah, but fire blast is preferred because blah blah blah'. Phantom Force is Dragapult's other STAB attack, hitting Fairy-types like Tapu Fini and Tapu Lele and overall being much harder to switch into due to the lack of common resistances to Ghost Ghost-resistant Pokemon (RC) and even less the even further rarity of those that can handle Dragon Darts. Life Orb-boosted Fire Blast allows Dragapult to OHKO Ferrothorn and 2HKO specially defensive Corviknight and Melmetal, while Flamethrower trades some of the raw power of Fire Blast for extra consistency. Dragon Fang can be used over Life Orb to avoid the recoil damage from Dragapult, allowing it Dragapult to still sweep after being significantly chipped down, at the cost of having a comparatively weaker Phantom Force and Fire Blast. Clear Body is chosen to allow Dragapult to ignore Intimidate as well as the rare Sticky Web. A Lonely nature is chosen to maximize Dragapult's damage output on both sides of the spectrum both physically and specially (this is a specifically banned phrase) and because, after a Dragon Dance, Dragapult is fast enough to outspeed relevant Choice Scarf users while using a neutral nature.

Team Options

This set is generally used on hyper offense sets teams, with Dragapult providing a good natural Speed tier to threaten out Pokemon like Choice Specs Blacephalon and Swords Dance Kartana, which would otherwise be incredibly threatening to those structures. In return, these teams can support Dragapult with Aurora Veil from Alolan Ninetales or dual screens from setters like Tapu Koko. Dragapult fears priority users like Choice Band Weavile and Choice Band Rillaboom, which can halt Dragapult's sweep with their strong priority moves, so pairing Dragapult it with an answer to them like Scizor or Flame Body Heatran can alleviate the problem. (remove double space) Swords Dance Garchomp is a good partner on hyper offense teams, as it can switch into and threaten physically defensive Heatran, which can threaten a burn on Dragapult using Phantom Force with Flame Body. Additionally, they the combination of it and Dragapult (haven't referred to a plural/combo of them yet) can overwhelm shared checks like Tapu Fini, Clefable, and Corviknight.
